Middle School Advisory: GRADE 7

Advisories give students a time and place where their non-academic needs can be addressed and supportive relationships can be developed. Teachers will facilitate discussions on relevant themes and provide students with a safe, non-judgmental environment. They will help students to discuss and possibly solve immediate concerns or problems, and help students in setting and reviewing goals.

The seventh grade Advisory encompasses four broad themes. Each quarter will focus on one theme and is arranged to mimic the development of a 7th grader throughout the school year. Optional topics are listed for each theme and teachers are asked to cover as many topics as they see fit. Also included are links to suggested activities and resources that may be used to facilitate discussions. Teachers are free to use other appropriate resources.

  • Knowing Oneself (Quarter 1): Students participate in activities to better understand who they are, how to identify and focus on their strengths, and how to build confidence and self-esteem.
  • Relationships (Quarter 2): Students learn the skills needed to interact with others in personal, school, and community-related groups and teams.
  • Social MediaQuarter 3): Students learn about the appropriate use of the internet, internet safety, privacy and security laws, and information literacy.
  • Community Outreach (Quarter 4): Students learn about philanthropy projects by both adults and children, as well as several causes to get them to want to take action.
  • Second Step Resources for 7th Grade: View the entire library of teacher and student materials.
